Clarivate Update: ‘Classic’ Web of Science retirement expected January 2022

Since July 2021 all Web of Science customers have accessed the *New* Web of Science as the default interface, with access to the ‘Classic’ Web of Science also available via the ‘Products’ drop-down menu.

Clarivate have now advised that the ‘Classic’ Web of Science interface is expected to be retired early January 2022. Please find full details of the Clarivate announcement below:

In July 2021, Clarivate launched a brand-new user experience for the Web of Science platform. Developed with the researcher in mind and addressing a large amount of customer feedback, the new platform delivers enhanced speed and accessibility, improved usability and new features and content.

In the last few months, Clarivate have been continually acting on your ideas to improve the *New* Web of Science. As a result, they are now ready to retire Classic Web of Science in early January 2022.

Clarivate are proud to share this next step in the phased migration of the Web of Science to a highly dynamic, personal and indispensable research assistant that supports your needs across your research workflows.

If you haven’t already, do explore these exciting features in the new Web of Science:

  • Author Impact Beamplots: Quickly see the context of a researcher’s scholarly influence over time in a visualization that supports best practices for research evaluation.
  • Enhanced cited references: Gain a deeper understanding of how and why articles are cited with an interactive visualization currently available for a select set of journals.
  • Improved institutional analysis capabilities: Find the data you need to make the right collections management decisions with type-ahead search for affiliations and the new Publishers filter.
  • Integrated discovery support: Find relevant results quickly and easily in the new system with article recommendations, tool tips, and guided tours.
