Upgrade Announcement – ISI Web of Science Service for UK Education

08 January 2003

MIMAS are delighted to announce that JISC have approved an upgrade to the ISI Web of Science Service for UK Education.

This is the "ISI Web of Knowledge" interface which includes ISI Web of Science version 5 (with 'set searching') as well as new versions of ISI Proceedings, ISI Links and other ISI products and software components. Significantly, ISI Web of Knowledge will offer cross-searching of both ISI Web of Science and ISI Proceedings, returning a de-duplicated hit list. Note these are additional functions, the existing, familiar search screens will remain. Where an institution subscribes to other ISI products as well as WoS and Proceedings, additional cross-searching is possible, but how this will be provided is the subject of detailed discussion currently.

Additional kit will be delivered and installed during January and the new version built alongside the current service during February and March. It is planned to switch over during the Easter vacation, as was done when we upgraded (to version 4.3) previously. There will then follow a series of regional training sessions in a number of locations throughout the UK.

Support documentation and training materials will be developed with colleagues from the John Rylands University Library of Manchester and feedback/advice sought from the JIBS User Group. More detailed information will follow in due course.

In the meantime, if you would like to "get a flavour" of ISI Web of Knowledge, see ISI's online tutorial.
